Getting started

In the panel, Getting started (at the top of the menu) is the list where you set up your assistant step by step. Each of the seven steps shows how long it takes and where to do it; when you finish a step, the list ticks it off by itself.

Seven steps

The list has seven steps. Each row shows the step's name, what it is for, roughly how long it takes and a Step-by-step guide link to its page on this site. The button on the right opens the screen where the step is done: Do it now on the next step, Open on the others, Review on a completed one.

#StepTimeWhen it is done
1Introduce your assistant2 minWhen you choose what you'll use the assistant for, or a persona is active.
2Give your assistant knowledge3 minWhen the knowledge base has at least one item, or a Shopify or WooCommerce store is connected.
3Try your assistant3 minWhen you have a test chat in the panel, or the first customer conversation arrives.
4Add the chat bubble to your site3 minWhen the chat bubble has loaded on a site within the last 7 days.
5Connect customer channels (optional)5 minWhen WhatsApp, Instagram or Telegram is connected, or the email channel is on.
6Invite your team and turn on alerts2 minWhen someone on the team has phone or computer notifications on for at least one device, or Slack is connected.
7Choose your plan1 minWhen the trial is over and a plan is chosen.

Above the list you see how many steps are done (e.g. “3 of 7 steps done”) and the time left. The time left only adds up the required steps that are not done; the optional channels step doesn't count. Once every required step is done, it says “Setup complete. Your assistant is ready for your customers.”

✅

You don't tick anything. Each step's status is worked out from your account's own data: when you finish a step, the list ticks it off by itself. If you finish a step in another tab and come back, the list refreshes by itself; the Refresh button at the top does the same. If a piece of information can't be read, the step shows as not done: better to send you there once more than to say “done” by mistake.

The next step is highlighted with a Next step label: it is the first required step that isn't done yet. Once every required step is done, the next step is the optional channels step, if it isn't done.

1. Introduce your assistant

You choose what you'll use the assistant for (e-commerce, customer support, B2B sales, corporate knowledge, education, healthcare, finance, real estate, or “General / I'll choose later”); a matching persona and tone are assigned (if your plan allows it). You can change the assistant's name and style later. The button opens Assistant › Identity & tone. When it's done, “Persona: …” or “Use case saved” appears under it. Guide: Identity & tone.

2. Give your assistant knowledge

Scan your website, upload documents or connect your store: the assistant answers only from these. The button opens Assistant › Knowledge. When it's done, the number of items learned (“42 items learned”) and the connected store (“Shopify store connected”) appear. Guide: Build your knowledge base.

3. Try your assistant

Ask a few questions the way a customer would; fix a wrong or incomplete answer in Assistant › Answer review. The button opens the Assistant chat screen. A test chat or a real customer conversation completes the step; the number of test chats and customer conversations appears under it. Guide: Answer review.

4. Add the chat bubble to your site

On Shopify it's one click in the theme editor; on other sites you paste the code. The button opens Channels › Chat bubble › Add to your site; if a Shopify or WooCommerce store is connected, that platform is preselected. We check for you that the bubble shows up on your site: if it loaded on a site within the last 7 days, the step is done and “Bubble seen on …” appears. If the bubble was seen before but not in the last 7 days, the step shows as not done, with the address and time it was last seen. On a Shopify store only the store's own addresses count: its myshopify address and, if the store is connected through the SemAgent Shopify app, its primary domain in Shopify. On other sites, the address where the bubble was last seen is shown. The Let's check step under Add to your site uses the same measure. Guide: Chat bubble › Add to your site.

5. Connect customer channels (optional)

WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram and email come together in one inbox; the assistant answers on all of them. The button opens Channels › Messaging. When it's done, the connected channels appear (“Connected: WhatsApp, Email”). This step is labelled Optional: it doesn't count towards the time left or the setup card. Guides: Messaging, Email channel.

6. Invite your team and turn on alerts

To hear on your phone when a customer asks for a person, turn on notifications on at least one device; you can also invite teammates. The button opens Team › Notifications. The step is done when someone on the team has phone or computer notifications on for a device, or Slack is connected (and not paused); invitations are not required. Under it you see how many people are on the team, how many devices have notifications on, “Slack connected” and pending invitations. While the step isn't done, an Invite a teammate link appears too (Team › Users & roles › Users). Guides: Notifications, Users.

7. Choose your plan

Every feature is on during the trial; you pick the plan that suits you and can change it any time. The button opens Account › Subscription & Billing. During the trial the date it ends is shown; once a plan is chosen, its name. Guide: Subscription & Billing.

The setup card on Overview

Until the required steps are done, a card sits at the top of the Overview screen: “Setup: 3 of 7 steps”, the next step's name, the time left, a progress bar and a Continue setup button that opens Getting started. Once every required step is done, the card disappears by itself. Panel roles land on Overview when they sign in; if setup isn't finished, they see this card there.

Stuck?

The Stuck? card next to the list offers three ways:

Who sees it?

Getting started is the screen of the person setting up the account: it appears in the menu when your role's Settings row is open (by default Owner and Admin; Users & roles). The setup card on Overview follows the same rule: it isn't drawn at all for a role without this access.
